mango carrot worm gummies
These homemade Halloween gummies get their brilliant orange colour from real mango and carrot juice. A little lime makes them wonderfully fruity, while maple syrup adds just enough sweetness. No artificial colours, no complicated ingredients. Just delicious little worms that happen to bring a few extra nutrients to the Halloween party.
- 200 ml carrot juice
- ⅓ cup mango, chopped (fresh or frozen, thawed)
- A splash of fresh lime juice
- Maple syrup, to taste
- 2 tbsp unflavoured powdered gelatine
Blend. Add the carrot juice, mango, lime juice and maple syrup to a blender. Blend until completely smooth.
Taste and adjust. The mixture should taste slightly sweeter and tangier than you'd normally like. Gelatine softens the flavour once set, so add a little more lime juice or maple syrup if needed.
Strain. Pour the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve to remove any pulp, then measure out exactly 200 ml.
Bloom the gelatine. Transfer the strained liquid to a small saucepan. Sprinkle the gelatine evenly over the surface and leave undisturbed for 5 minutes to bloom.
Warm gently. Place the saucepan over low heat, stirring gently until the gelatine is completely dissolved and the mixture looks smooth and glossy. Don't let it boil.
Fill the moulds. Allow to cool slightly, then use a pipette or clean, food-safe syringe to fill your silicone worm moulds.
Refrigerate. Transfer to the fridge for 2–3 hours, or until completely firm.
Unmould. Carefully pop out the worms and store in an airtight container in the fridge.
Texture check
- Too soft → add a little more gelatine next time.
- Too firm → reduce the gelatine slightly.
- Not flavourful enough → add more lime or maple syrup before setting.
- Lots of air bubbles → let the liquid settle for a minute before filling the moulds.
- Naturally bright orange, without artificial food colouring
- Carrot juice provides beta-carotene, which the body converts into vitamin A to support vision and immune function
- Mango and lime bring vitamin C, which also helps with iron absorption
- A fun Halloween treat made with just five simple ingredients
Store in an airtight container in the fridge. Keep chilled until ready to serve, as homemade gelatine gummies can soften at room temperature.
